Red Light Management and Live Nation have teamed up to present the first-ever Homeward Bound Concert to benefit the homeless community in Los Angeles. Scheduled for Jan. 23 at The Wiltern, the event will benefit LA-based non-profit Path with performances from Jason Mraz, Dave and Kaya Stewart and a rare reunion for Doors’ members Robby Krieger and John Densmore.
“Having Robby Krieger and John Densmore from The Doors reuniting for this event is really meaningful. They obviously have a deep connection to the LA community. They have always been amazing activists and philanthropic supporters,” says Red Light Management’s Jonathon Shank. Shank emphasized the fact that Krieger and Densmore have only reunited for a handful of shows in the past 20 years.
The Homeward Bound Concert will benefit PATH (People Assisting The Homeless) which is a long-running foundation that provides permanent housing, case management, medical and mental healthcare, benefits advocacy, employment training and other services to houseless individuals across the state of California and addresses the problem of homelessness.
“Everybody that I have been in contact with has just been so generous with their time and their energy,” says Shank. “Most of these artists either have some connection to the homeless initiative or are local artists that have been activists in their own right.”
“The artists, they all are just donating their time and energy and resources to make sure that this is a great event and hopefully one that can be sustainable,” says Shank of the show. “This seems like a great way to bring people together and start something that hopefully can be an annual event to help a community that largely lives in the shadows.”
According to Shank, event organizers in other cities including Seattle, Chicago and Washington, D.C. have already expressed interest in doing Homeward Bound Concert events to help the homeless community in their cities. He hopes the event will expand after industry folks get the chance to see the show for year one.
The concert will feature stripped down mini-sets from each of the artists, unique collaborations and surprise guests.
